Race Across America Tight

The top three riders in the solo men’s division remained close Sunday as they passed through the 20th checkpoint of Race Across America.

Wolfgang Fasching of Austria leads the men after the first 1,121.4 miles of the race, which started in Irvine. Fasching, who was third in his first try last year, passed through La Veta, Colo., at 3:08 (PDT), 37 minutes ahead of 1996 champion Danny Chew of Pennsylvania and 2:08 ahead of Kaname Sakurai of Japan, who was third. Sakurai was the early leader in the race.

Seana Hogan of San Jose leads in the women’s solo division. She went through La Veta, Colo., at 3:07 p.m. (PDT) and was 1:52 ahead of Muffy Ritz of Idaho, who was second.
