South Africa Refrigerator Maker Sets Up in Oxnard

Explorer LLC, a manufacturer of portable refrigerators, freezers and coolers, has established U.S. operations in Oxnard.
Headquartered in South Africa, Explorer LLC conducted a one-year survey of potential sites before selecting Oxnard for its first United States location, said Steve Kinney, president of the Greater Oxnard Economic Development Corp.
“Oxnard was selected as the best location for our business given the area’s infrastructure, employee base and business costs,” said Geoffery Rael, Explorer LLC president.
The EDC and California Trade and Commerce Agency worked together to provide Explorer LLC with information about Oxnard, including the advantage of having a nearby port with the heavy export volume of the company’s business.
Explorer LLC makes six models of environmentally friendly refrigerator and freezer units at its new 1121 Mercantile Ave. location, which are used primarily by the recreational-vehicle and marine industries.
