Telecourses and weekend classes are among new programs being offered this fall at Irvine Valley College.
The weekend program is designed for working adults who want to earn general education credits toward an associate degree while keeping up with the demands of a full-time job, college officials said.
In a series of staggered nine-week sessions starting Aug. 15, students may attend class from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday evenings and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays.
“We hope to bring together a cohort group of students who will begin Weekend College, study together during the program and end with a degree at about the same time,” said Pam Deegan, dean of instructional programs. The telecourses will include three sessions broadcast on Cox Cable Channel 33 in the Irvine area.
Students can take anthropology, introduction to business or introduction to psychology by viewing 26 half-hour programs. Credit for the three-unit classes will be transferable to the University of California and the California State University systems, officials said.
Mandatory orientation sessions for the telecourses will be Sept. 5, 6 and 8 on campus.
Students may make telephone registration appointments now. Classes begin Aug. 25.
