Saddleback Student Judged Top Reporter
Saddleback College student Sarah O’Rourke was recently named best college reporter at the Orange County Fair’s 12th media contest.
The Lake Forest resident writes for Saddleback’s weekly student newspaper, The Lariat She won eight awards, including a clean sweep in the sports category, second place in spot news with two reporters, second and third in serious column and third in sports news.
O’Rourke, 20, was The Lariat’s sports editor during the spring 1997 semester. She was also recently awarded a $1,500 internship grant from the California Newspaper Publishers Assn.
In addition, Saddleback’s Maryanne Wardlaw, editor in chief of The Lariat in the fall of 1996, received awards in three categories and Kevin Hessel, last spring’s editor in chief, won two awards.
