New York-based Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. said its fiscal second-quarter earnings rose 37% to $44.9 million, or 45 cents a share, from pro forma $32.9 million, or 33 cents, in the year-ago quarter. Polo Ralph Lauren made its initial public offering in June. . . . The Teamsters have agreed to pay at least half the estimated $7.4-million cost for a rerun of the union’s federally supervised election, a union spokesman said. Negotiations with the Justice Department over exactly which costs will fall to the Teamsters are continuing, but spokesman Matt Witt said the union will pay at least $3.7 million. . . . Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc. said it formed a joint venture with Indianapolis-based real estate investment trust Simon DeBartolo Group to invest at least $1 billion in racetracks, movie theaters and other entertainment properties in the next 18 months. The partnership, called Simon/DLJ Entertainment Properties Inc., is also weighing going public. . . . A seat on the New York Stock Exchange sold for a record $1.5 million, an indication that traders expect Wall Street’s profits to keep rolling, even after the market’s short-lived rout last week.
