The C Bar (No, It Isn’t for Curry)

Good news for that tony night life wasteland of Beverly Hills: A new club there appears to have all the right components. The former general manager of Bar Marmont, Johnny Camacho, and the partners of West L.A.’s Liquid Kitty club, Christian Kneedler and Sedd Moses, unveiled the C Bar this week at the site of the old Chrystie’s, 8442 Wilshire Blvd., which had been an Indian restaurant called Nirvana in its most recent incarnation.

“It took us two weeks just to get the smell of curry out of the building,” says Camacho, who oversaw the bar’s transformation back to its original 1930s Art Deco look. . . .

Also making a rather nice splash is Garden of Eden, a new upscale restaurant and nightclub, located--of all places--on good ol’ Hollywood Boulevard, (7080 to be exact). . . .

Speaking of famous Hollywood boulevards, the legendary X guitarist Billy Zoom, who’s been M.I.A. for over a decade, resurfaced on Sunset Boulevard Friday afternoon to jam with his X-partner Exene Cervenkova in front of her Silver Lake retail shop, You’ve Got Bad Taste. Cervenkova and Zoom were on hand to tape an ad for Fox’s “The X Files.” . . .

Last week, we reported that Sin-A-Matic had left club 7969 after seven years. It did, for a minute, but promoter Joseph Brooks says the response was overwhelming and the club is back Saturdays at the popular West Hollywood club. . . .

In celebration of its long overdue debut album, the independently produced “El Cine,” the dynamic L.A. band Los Olvidados are taking over the Whisky on Sunday and has invited Chencha Berrinches, Anima and Calavera to open the show. . . .

At LunaPark’s Halloween bash, Billy Wisdom and the Heeshees got a treat of its own, as L7’s Donita Sparks joined the group for a couple of numbers. On hand to view the performance were actors Billy Zane and Ann Magnuson, who came dressed as Princess Di (ooooh, that takes nerve). . . .

Some of L.A./O.C.’s finest, most fun local club bands contributed to Centipede Records’ new Devo tribute album, titled “We Are Not Devo.” Among the performers is Possum Dixon, which turns in a muy excellente Spanglish rendition of “Mongoloid,” retitling it “El Mongoloido.” Do not try this at home.
