Police Seek 4th Suspect in Slaying

Although city police have arrested three juveniles on suspicion of murdering a 24-year-old resident last weekend, detectives said Wednesday that they are still looking for a 22-year-old suspect in the shooting.

Detectives are seeking the public’s help in their search for Jose Ramiro Pardo, whom they have linked to the death of Cesar Garcia early Sunday.

Pardo, an alleged gang member, is considered armed and dangerous, said Sgt. Jerry Beck, a detective working on the case.

Garcia was shot in the chest about 3:20 a.m. while talking with friends at an apartment complex on the 100 block of West B Street in Port Hueneme, Beck said. Friends rushed him to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he died in the emergency room.

Garcia’s friends left without talking to authorities and investigators from the Oxnard Police Department, which first took up the case, Beck said.

But about eight hours into the investigation, the Oxnard detectives determined the shooting had taken place in Port Hueneme, and the investigation was turned over to the Port Hueneme Police Department, Beck said.

Investigators said they did not have a lot of information on the shooting. Garcia, whose last known address was an apartment at West B Street complex, had a few drug and petty theft convictions, court records show.

On Tuesday, detectives arrested three teenagers in the shooting, Beck said.

Anyone with information on Pardo is asked to call Beck at 986-6534 or the Ventura County Crime Stoppers line at 385-TALK. Information can be given anonymously. Tipsters with information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect are eligible for up to $1,000 in reward money.
