Hancock and Wonder Set to Perform at Thelonious Monk Institute Benefit

Herbie Hancock and Stevie Wonder will headline a gala concert Dec. 9 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion celebrating the start of a long-term collaboration between the Music Center and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. Tickets for the event go on sale Sunday at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Proceeds from the event will benefit the institute’s programs to provide enhanced jazz education in Los Angeles public schools.

Hancock, who serves as the partnership’s artistic director, will be joined on the program by an array of jazz artists that includes saxophonists Wayne Shorter and Joshua Redman, bassists Ray Brown, John Clayton and Christian McBride, pianist Patrice Rushen, guitarist Kenny Burrell, drummer Brian Blade and singer Dianne Reeves, with other performers to be announced. The show will be co-hosted by Debbie Allen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Billy Dee Williams.
