Nominees Sought for Local Service Awards

Share

A citizens advisory panel with the Los Angeles city attorney’s office is seeking nominees for its ninth annual community service awards.

Ted Goldstein, executive director of the Criminal Justice Panel, said the awards are presented each year to individuals, businesses, groups and members of the media whose volunteer efforts aid law enforcement or the criminal justice system.

Past winners include TV news anchorman Jess Marlow and Valley businessmen and activists Philip “Flip” Smith and Harold Peskin, whose volunteer efforts have led to a reduction of prostitution and other crime on Sepulveda Boulevard.

The 20-member panel is made up of representatives of homeowner and victims rights organizations and other groups.

This year’s winners will be honored at a ceremony in June, Goldstein said.
