Veterans Day events to honor men and women who have served or are serving in the U.S. military are planned throughout the county. Events are Tuesday, unless otherwise noted:

Anaheim

* American Legion Post 72, 936 N. Lemon St.; welcome at 10:50 a.m. followed by chaplain’s prayer; 11 a.m., ringing of the bell 11 times, firing squad, raising of the flags and commander’s thank you. Information: Lew Erskine, (714) 635-7960.

* Veterans of Foreign Wars, Anaheim Post 3173, 805 E. Sycamore St., 11 a.m. flag-raising ceremony and barbecue. Information: (714) 533-3173.

Brea

* Memory Garden Memorial Park, 455 W. Central Ave.; will fly more than 1,000 American flags on the Avenue of the Flags from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Information: (714) 529-3961.

* Brea Senior Center, 500 S. Sievers Ave.; 11 a.m., brief remembrance ceremony, luncheon to follow, $1.50 donation for seniors, $3 for others. Information: (714) 990-7750.

Buena Park

* Knott’s Berry Farm Independence Hall, 8039 Beach Blvd.; traveling replica of Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the “Moving Wall,” today beginning at 10 a.m. through Nov. 16; open 24 hours, no charge. Knott’s is also honoring veterans and military personnel, spouses or one guest, and children younger than 12, by offering free admission to the park today through Nov. 16. Cypress

* Veterans Park, 4554 Avenida Granada at Ball Road and Denni Street; dedication ceremony of park’s new picnic shelter, 10 a.m., with Cypress City Council and members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Information: (714) 229-6780.

* Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Ave.; American flags will be placed on veterans’ graves on Sunday by area Boy Scouts.

Fountain Valley

* Veterans of Foreign Wars Fountain Valley Post 9557; “Buddy Poppy” program to raise money for needy and hospitalized veterans; accepting donations today and Sunday at Hughes Market at Garfield Avenue and Magnolia Street; Ralphs at Brookhurst Street and Ellis Avenue; Sam’s Club, 17099 Brookhurst St. Information or donations: Bob Chermak, (714) 968-3104.

Fullerton

* American Legion Fullerton Post 142, brief ceremony at 10 a.m., Hillcrest Park, at Brea and Harbor boulevards, at veterans memorial. Information: (714) 871-2412.

Lake Forest

* El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Road; observance at 11 a.m., keynote address by former Congressman Lionel Van Deerlin, a World War II veteran. Color guards from local

Mission Viejo

* The Honor Roll of Names of 58,169 who died in the Vietnam War will be read beginning today at 10 a.m. with a brief ceremony at 9:30 a.m., Mission Viejo Library courtyard, 25209 Marguerite Parkway.

Placentia

San Juan Capistrano

* Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3801; ceremony and picnic today at Descanso Veterans’ Park, at the end of Paseo Adelanto next to City Hall. Program begins at noon, with lunch buffet available for $5 per person (children younger than 10, free). No charge for participating in ceremonies and residents are welcome to bring picnic lunches. Tustin

* Marine Corps Air Station, enter at main gate on Red Hill Avenue, between Barranca Parkway and Edinger Avenue; Vietnam Veterans of America, Orange County chapter hosting an observance in front of headquarters building honoring Orange County’s 20 POW/MIA families; Sunday, noon-1:30 p.m. Information: (714) 726-2920.

Yorba Linda

* The Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace, 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd.; activities begin at 10 a.m., wreath-laying by Gen. John W. Vessey Jr. at Memorial of President Nixon; address by Vessey at 10:30 (reservations required); opening of library’s 39th special exhibit, featuring personal items made by American POWs during their confinement, 11:30; Student Editors Forum with Vessey and high school and college journalists, 2 p.m. All events free.
