PLANET JANET: If Jackson’s management change was made due to any perception that the album isn’t meeting sales expectations, it might have been made too early. Even though it dropped out of the Top 10 last week, those in R&B; radio and press are seeing interest build for the collection as the new single hits the airwaves.

“ ‘Together Again’ is a great song with a great message and a strong beat,” says Danyel Smith, editor in chief of Vibe. “The first single is also a great song, but I’m not sure it’s a pop hit. So now she comes back with ‘Together Again,’ and everyone will rush to the dance floor.”

And in truth, “Got ‘Til It’s Gone,” in which the central sample from Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi” is more prominent a feature than Jackson herself, is showing new life.

“We didn’t feel it was the best single from the album at first,” says Mariama Snider, music director of Los Angeles urban pop station KKBT-FM (92.3). “But now it’s in our power rotation. It took a while, but it’s turned into a big hit for us. And this album has many hit singles on it. There’s no reason to panic.”
