Antenna Ordinance Still Under Study

Share

A proposal to extend a moratorium on new applications for wireless telecommunications equipment will be reviewed by the City Council on Wednesday.

The moratorium was passed last year so that city staff could develop a permanent ordinance to regulate where microwave antennas could be built in Dana Point.

With the 1996 federal Telecommunications Act opening competition for a variety of communications services, such as cellular telephones, Southland cities saw a sudden, unexpected increase in applications to install microwave antennas, prompting the Dana Point moratorium. It expires Nov. 23.

The proposal would extend it for one year, although city staff expects a permanent ordinance to be ready by January.

The 6:30 p.m. meeting will be at City Hall, 33282 Golden Lantern. Information: (714) 248-9890.
