It’s an Honor Just to Be Nominated

For 32 years, the Orange County chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management has held its annual Manager of the Year competition with a dozen serious contenders for the title. But this year only two nominations have trickled in--for Sheriff Brad Gates and Cal State Fullerton President Milton Gordon.
The deadline for nominations is Nov. 30, and the award will be presented in March. Honorees have included Knott’s Berry Farm founder Walter Knott, Chapman University President James Doti and Anaheim City Manager James D. Ruth.
Officials of the management organization quipped that the slow response this year could be due to “the Dilbert effect”--referring to the popular cartoon that lampoons management.
