Indian Subcontinent Group Forms

Share

A group has formed in Orange County to foster entrepreneurship among Southern Californians with ties to the Indian subcontinent. The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) is a networking and mentoring organization run by successful business people who immigrated to the United States from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka--although membership is open to anyone.

The national TiE organization was founded in Silicon Valley in 1992, and chapters have since been formed in Austin, Texas, and Boston.

The local chapter was started by Safi Qureshey, the former chief executive of AST Research in Irvine. The first meeting in September drew more than 160 attendees. Monthly meetings will be held at the Sheraton Cerritos, and each will feature a successful entrepreneur, venture capitalist, attorney, consultant or others who will discuss issues confronting new businesses.

“I see a need” for professional advice for fledgling businesses, Qureshey said. “We’re encouraging entrepreneurship, mentoring and networking, and giving back to the community at large.”
