Officials to Open City Hall Branch Office at Mall

West Covina City Hall is branching out.

City officials will open an office in a neighborhood shopping center early next year, where residents can do everything from pay bills to sign up for recreation programs.

“The city wants to branch out into the community and dispel the myth of the unapproachable government,” said Mayor Benjamin Wong.

The office in the Annex at 2413 S. Azusa Ave., a popular strip mall, also will offer a community meeting room for residents, officials said. The 1,900-square-foot facility will open Jan. 7 with a staff drawn from all city departments.

“We expect it to serve 36,000 of 101,000 residents of the city,” said assistant city manager Abraham W. Koniarsky. The office also will offer recreation programs, and state and local legislators will be encouraged to hold office hours there, city officials said.

The city will pay $3,600 a month to lease the facility, Koniarsky said.
