UCI Business Center Wins National Award

The Accelerate Technology Small Business Development Center in UC Irvine’s Graduate School of Management has received a national award recognizing its success in developing high-technology businesses.

The 1997 Tibbetts Award for technological innovation, economic impact and business achievement, established in honor of Roland Tibbetts, founder of the federal Small Business Research Program, was given during a recent ceremony at the White House.

Accelerate is one of more than 900 small-business development centers nationwide--and the only such center specializing in high-tech firms. It is among 68 businesses, individuals and assistance centers in the nation to be honored with the 1997 Tibbetts Award, and the only small-business development center to receive one.

The center provides free counseling and technical assistance to high-growth, high-technology businesses and has helped more than 1,100 firms since its inception in 1989.
