Brimhall Recovering From Heart Surgery

Thousand Oaks City Manager Grant Brimhall was recovering well Wednesday from open heart surgery a day before and is expected to be moved to the regular patient section at Columbia Los Robles Hospital by today, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Brimhall, 60, who has led Thousand Oaks as its top bureaucrat for nearly two decades, underwent quintuple bypass surgery Tuesday after medical tests revealed five blockages in his heart.

The surgery went well and Brimhall will be moved from the cardiac care unit, according to spokeswoman Kris Carraway, who said the hospital has received countless inquiries about Brimhall.

“He’s in excellent condition and so we’re going to move him to the floor,” Carraway said. “He’ll probably get rehab soon. It’s important to get [heart patients] up and about as quickly as possible.”

At Wednesday’s State of the City address at the Thousand Oaks Inn, Mayor Judy Lazar praised Brimhall’s leadership as a reason for the city’s success in 1997.
