Trustees to Discuss Creation of Fundamental School
- Share via
The school board today will consider establishing a fundamental school, potentially stressing a more traditional approach to education and discipline.
Members of the Westminster School District Board of Trustees in October called for financial information about creating such a campus within the district, officials said. Tonight, trustees will consider the findings and could approve surveying district residents about the proposal.
Whether an existing school would be converted or a new school built has not been decided, district spokeswoman Trish Cannady said. The campus likely would serve elementary students.
Cannady said the board will form its own definition of a fundamental school.
“Each district has the flexibility to make a fundamental school whatever they want it to be,” she said. “Typically, it’s a back-to-basics curriculum using the three Rs--reading, writing, arithmetic.”
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the district office board room, 14121 Cedarwood Ave. Information: (714) 894-7311.
