Elysian Park

It is very strange that Anastasia Mann, who works in the Elysian Park area, has never encountered a neighborhood resident who is opposed to an NFL stadium in Chavez Ravine (letter, Nov. 16). To date, the Citizens Committee to Save Elysian Park, a member of the coalition organization, Neighbors of Dodger Stadium, has helped gather over 3,000 signatures against an NFL stadium next to Dodger Stadium. These neighbors know firsthand how Dodger events hold them under siege. Elysian Park, especially, suffers not only from Dodger events but from daily commuter traffic (brought on by stadium access roads) with its accompanying air and noise pollution.

Elysian Park is the only green open space for thousands of inner-city residents. It is heavily used on Sundays when football games would essentially close the park to public use with no parking along Stadium Way, a very popular family area. For the past two years, CCSEP and NODS have maintained that the park and surrounding community cannot support any further development in Chavez Ravine. Elysian Park is our city’s oldest and second largest park. It is an urban oasis to be treasured and preserved, not turned into an NFL theme park.
