Police Chief Quits in New Controversy
Police Chief Larry Soulsby resigned in a controversy over a luxury apartment he allegedly leased at a bargain price with a police lieutenant who is under federal investigation. “I cannot allow another controversy to impact on my officers,” Soulsby told reporters. The resignation also comes amid criticism of detectives’ competency in murder investigations. The Washington Post reported that Soulsby has been splitting the $650-a-month rent for a two-bedroom apartment with Lt. Jeff Stowe. Rents normally range from $1,700 to $2,500.
