Loyola Marymount University received a boost in its fund-raising efforts to build a new gymnasium on the campus.

The Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation contributed $1 million to the fund, which has raised $11.5 million of the required $15 million.

The university, a private institution with about 5,000 students, plans to tear down the 50-year-old Alumni Memorial Gymnasium and replace it with the Health and Recreation Complex.
