Animal Shelter to Stay Open 7 Days a Week

Share

Beginning Sunday, the Humane Society of Ventura County animal shelter will be open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter kennels are at 402 Bryant St. in Ojai.

“We welcome the public to come and view our adoptable pets,” said Maria Tello, who runs the shelter’s volunteer programs. “Right now, we have dogs, cats and rabbits, but occasionally we have guinea pigs, goats, horses and sheep. You never know. I could hang up the phone and a minute later a potbellied pig could walk in the door.”

Those interested in adopting puppies or dogs must first have appropriate fencing.

“And if you can’t adopt a pet, anyone 14 or older can become a member of the Humane Society’s volunteer program, which involves walking, socializing and cuddling with the animals regularly,” Tello said.

The Humane Society also needs donated used items to resell at its downtown Ventura thrift store. Pickup is provided by calling 648-2121. For more information on the animal shelter, call Tello at 646-6505 or 656-5031.
