Revenge Is Not a Factor as Costa Mesa Wins

After last year’s 36-point loss to Costa Mesa, San Gabriel Gabrielino’s players vowed to get revenge in this year’s game at Gabrielino. Instead, Costa Mesa again pummeled the Eagles, 38-0, and held Gabrielino to only 47 total yards and one first down.

Costa Mesa (4-0) had 341 total yards.

Vince Hamade opened the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown run. Jimmy Herzog added a five-yard touchdown run for a 14-0 first-quarter lead with 2 minutes 49 seconds remaining.

Steven Herzog, who rushed for 100 yards, scored in the second quarter on a three-yard run.

David Weir had a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Ben Felter, who also had an interception, scored of a 46-yard run late in the third quarter for a 35-0 lead.

St. Margaret’s 30, Acton Vasquez 15--Quarterback Dylan Gilbert and receiver Jimmy Freeman connected on three touchdown passes to lead St. Margaret’s at Vasquez.

Acton scored first to take a 7-0 lead, but Freeman scored on a 70-yard pass from Gilbert later in the quarter. The duo then connected on a 68-yard scoring pass to make it 14-7 at the half.

Alex Perin’s 22-yard field goal made it 17-7 after three quarters, and Freeman then scored on a seven-yard reception in the fourth.
