La Habra Falls Short in Second Half, Loses to Warren

After a lackluster first half, La Habra regrouped to rally but eventually fell short Friday night, losing to Downey Warren, 21-14, before a homecoming crowd of 2,000.

La Habra quarterback Robert Morales scored on a one-yard run with 6 minutes 37 seconds left in the game to close Warren’s gap to 14-12. Running back Josh Herrera tied the score when he scored the two-point conversion on a three-yard run.

Two plays later, Herrera recovered a fumble by Bears’ running back Tony Zamora at the Warren 47, and the Highlanders’ began a potential game-winning drive. However, Herrera was stopped short of a first down on fourth-and-three run at the Bears 30.

Warren (3-1) quickly marched 70 yards in five plays. The key play of the drive was a pass interference call again the Highlanders at the La Habra 23. Two plays later, quarterback James Steele scored his second touchdown of the game on a 14-yard run.

La Habra (2-2) had one last opportunity but defensive end John Park sacked Morales at the Highlander 35 as time ran out.
