Zeanah Buzz

For months, Thousand Oaks residents have been bombarded with mixed messages about the recall of Councilwoman Elois Zeanah (B1). . . . Judging from an informal poll of dozens of people from Newbury Park to North Ranch, there are mixed reactions to Zeanah’s Nov. 4 recall election. Some people like her. Others hate her. Some people resent the big money being spent to oust her. Others say the mailers the money has bought have swayed them.

Money Matters

Just because there are no visible signs of decay at Moorpark schools, officials say it doesn’t mean the campuses don’t need any sprucing up. . . . On Nov. 4, school district officials hope to convince voters to pass a $16-million bond measure to help pay for new facilities and renovate old ones (B1). . . . “We don’t want to be satisfied with just good schools,” school board President Tom Baldwin said.

Homework Help

If Junior’s grades are a little troubling, don’t despair. You can find some help by hiring a tutor, as more and more Americans are doing (B2). . . . If you can’t afford one, you aren’t out of options. There are many free programs through area schools and agencies, including Ventura’s Project Understanding, where chiropractor Robert Berkovitz helps Luis Marin with his reading.

Sharing Space

And lo, it was written that man should drive on the street and walk on the sidewalk, and this became the law. But Street Smart (B1) says this ancient commandment gives no help to bicyclists, who ride in the risky nether world between street and sidewalk. . . . The law says bicyclists have a choice of venues, but is either a good idea?
