The city is inching closer to having all the money it needs to dredge Upper Newport Bay.
The U.S. House of Representatives recently voted to allocate $1 million for the project and the money is expected to be approved soon by the Senate.
The state has already devoted $2 million to the cause and the city has asked for an additional $2.4 million from a state wetlands restoration fund.
City officials said they expect the dredging to begin in early November.
