Halloween Fest Needs to Scare Up Helpers
Halloween only seems far away.
For organizers of the city’s Halloween Carnival, it’s creeping up at a rapid pace. And the annual spookfest needs about 150 volunteers willing to dress in appropriate garb, work the game booths, help with the costume contest and otherwise make sure everyone has a scary time.
The event, one of the largest of the year, also serves as the reservoir for donations of food to give to needy families over the holidays.
The carnival is free to everyone on Halloween night, but celebrators are asked to bring canned or boxed provisions for the food distribution effort.
The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Central Park, 7821 Walker St.
The games are free and community groups will offer food for sale.
The party includes a “Goblin Gulch” area for creatures younger than 5.
To volunteer for the event, call the Recreation and Community Services Department at (714) 522-6740.
Helpers will be asked to work one of two shifts: from 5 to 7 p.m. or 7 to 9 p.m.
