Assemblyman Bob Hertzberg (D-Sherman Oaks) is seeking interns to research policy issues and provide clerical support in his Van Nuys district office.

Internship positions are open on the new ideas department research staff, advisory committee support staff, specialized projects staff and clerical support staff, said field representative Russell Blank.

Although interns receive no pay, Blank said, college credit will be given to qualified students who work a minimum of 15 weeks on any of the staffs--except clerical support, where no credit is given.

Interns will set their own hours and work out of the Van Nuys State Office Building on Van Nuys Boulevard at Calvert Street, Blank said.

Students working on the new ideas research staff will review various news and think-tank publications for ideas on policy issues pertaining to communities, government and organization efficiency and general welfare. They will be asked to write synopses of what they read, Blank said.

Advisory committee support staff interns, he said, will draft briefing papers and provide clerical support to various advisory committees such as public safety, business, and women and families.

Interns on the special projects staff are expected to research major issues such as juvenile justice, state budget preparation and voter registration, he said.

The district office has numerous filing and computer database systems that must be continuously updated, he said. Interns will be expected to enter information into databases, file documents and print letters.

For information, write to Blank at 6150 Van Nuys Blvd., Suite 305, Van Nuys 91401 or call (818) 376-4040.
