Sunnyvale-based Advanced Micro Devices Inc., unable to produce as many of its new K6 microprocessors as it planned, reported a third-quarter loss of $31.7 million. The loss for the three months ended Sept. 28 amounted to 22 cents a share. It compared with a loss of $38.4 million, or 28 cents a share, a year ago. . . . Santa Clara-based Intel Corp. might buy some of the computer chip facilities of Digital Equipment Corp. to settle a bitter five-month dispute over patents, industry sources told the Washington Post. Discussions between the companies are focusing on the Massachusetts factory where Digital makes a chip called the Alpha.
