A 44-year-old Anaheim man was shot and wounded when he and a friend were robbed by three men who tried to hold up a restaurant minutes earlier, police said.

The two men were walking near State College Boulevard and Sycamore Street about 10:25 p.m. Monday when three men confronted them, Anaheim Police Lt. Joe Vargas said.

The victims surrendered a few possessions but had no money, Vargas said. One of the robbers then opened fire, hitting one of the victims in the chest.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and was in satisfactory condition, Vargas said.

The three robbers resemble the men who tried to rob a Jack in the Box restaurant two blocks away just minutes before the shooting, Vargas said.

“We’re certain someone must have driven by and seen what happened,” Vargas said. “There was still a large amount of traffic on State College.”

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call police at (714) 254-1516.
