First L.A. Latino Film Festival Continues

The first Los Angeles International Latino Film Festival continues through Sunday at the Alfred Hitchcock Theatre complex on the Universal Studios lot. Today’s highlights include:

* “Pretty Vacant”: A short feature by Jim Mendiola about a perennial junior college student, nascent filmmaker, incurable romantic and drummer for the all-girl band Aztlan-a-Go-Go. (2:30 p.m.; screening room 2)

* “Lena’s Dream”: L.A. premiere of a feature by Heather Johnston and Gordon Eriksen about a Latina actress at a career crossroad. (6:15 p.m.; screening room 3)

* “A Day Without a Mexican”: A mock documentary by Sergio Arau and Yareli Arizmendi about the practical calamity that would ensue if every Latino in California disappeared overnight. (6:45 p.m., screening room 2)

* “La Bamba”: A 10th anniversary screening of Luis Valdez’s feature about the tragic career of rock legend Ritchie Valens. (8 p.m.; Hitchcock Theatre)
