Pianist Lindy Blackburn, 15, won a special diploma award at the Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians on Sept. 3 in St. Petersburg, Russia. (This is a different contest from the Tchaikovsky International Competition, which Van Cliburn won in Moscow in 1958.) Blackburn, the only American to win an award at the St. Petersburg contest, is a student of Leonid Levitsky, artistic director of the Newport Beach Recital Series.
