Red Ribbon Effort to Kick Off at Mall

In an ongoing effort to steer kids away from drugs, the Conejo Valley Substance Abuse Prevention Authority is set to begin its annual Red Ribbon Campaign to help youth commit themselves to healthy and drug-free lifestyles.
Beginning Oct. 23 and continuing through Oct. 31, event participants will don red ribbons to demonstrate their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
On Oct. 25, organizers will host a kickoff event at the The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks that will include seminars by area DARE officers, substance abuse information, as well as mimes, clowns and magicians.
The Red Ribbon Campaign began in 1985 after federal agent Enrique Camerena was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico. It has since become a symbol in the fight against drugs and substance abuse.
