City to Offer Gift Certificates for Classes
They work for record shops, department stores and restaurants, why not for a city?
Officials in Calabasas figure that offering gift certificates to be exchanged for community services classes and trips could work for the city.
“Here [in Calabasas], everybody has everything,” said Linda Gonder of the Calabasas Community Services Department. “This is an opportunity to give something that they haven’t had a chance to give before.”
City officials envision full-time moms giving certificates to their friends with children or grandparents giving grandchildren certificates for sports programs.
The certificates, purchased in denominations of $25 and $50, may be used for city-sponsored recreational programs, dance, arts and craft classes, self-defense and aerobics classes, as well as seminars in first aid and financial planning.
They also may be redeemed for city-sponsored excursions to the beach or ski resorts.
Fees for these city services range from $24 for a mommy and me class to $70 for a trip, Gonder said.
