Re “A Young Life of Promise, Responsibility Cut Short,” Oct. 8:
Another innocent child, Selwyn Leflore Jr., has been killed in broad daylight by the ever-present stray bullet. His smiling face haunted me this morning as I escorted my own children to school in our supposedly “safe” neighborhood.
We all recall Gov. Pete Wilson’s recent veto of the legislation outlawing the so-called Saturday night special, the cheap and easy way to buy a gun. His relationship with the National Rifle Assn. is self-evident. He attempted to justify his veto by claiming that he did not want to deprive low-income people of their right to buy firearms. Thanks to Wilson, guns are plentiful everywhere.
We are so accustomed to these killings. Let us never forget that behind every one of them is probably a cheap Saturday night special. How does Wilson sleep at night?
