New Anti-Tobacco Program Gets Grant
Newhart Middle School has received a $75,000 grant for a new anti-tobacco program, Project Bash Ash.
The program, which will start this fall, is designed to reduce and prevent tobacco use among school-age children.
A full-time counselor will be hired to work with students in prevention and intervention activities. Lunchtime and after-school meetings and exercises will be included, and anti-tobacco materials will be incorporated into the student lessons.
Newhart was the only school in Orange County to receive the one-year grant from the California Department of Education, and one of 17 schools statewide.
