Scholarship Fund Honors Bailiff Slain Near Home

Share

More than 350 people--including Superior Court Judge Lance A. Ito and former Gov. George Deukmejian--attended a luncheon Thursday to raise money in honor of a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy gunned down by a prowler near his home two years ago.

Nearly $10,000 was collected for a scholarship fund set up at Pasadena City College in memory of Antranik G. Geuvjehizian, who worked as one of Ito’s bailiffs during the O.J. Simpson trial. Geuvjehizian, who lived in Pasadena, was shot and killed July 18, 1995, after he confronted a prowler in his neighbor’s frontyard.

The scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled in the Administration of Justice Program at Pasadena City College, where Geuvjehizian was a second-year student at the time of his death.

Known among his courthouse friends as “G-12” for the number of letters in his last name, Geuvjehizian was remembered as a kind man who risked his life to protect his neighbors.
