Historic Status May Be Given Neighborhood
A proposal by residents to create a district in the central part of the city to preserve historic homes will be considered Tuesday by the City Council.
The Anaheim Colony District would be bounded by North, South, East and West streets. If approved, voluntary guidelines would be established to assist homeowners in retaining a home’s historic significance.
About 1,100 structures--mainly homes built in the 1920s and earlier--have been identified as having historical or architectural significance.
Micky Caldwell, a resident and member of a committee working with the city on the proposal, said the designation would protect the homes and encourage homeowners to move back to the neighborhood and rehabilitate their properties.
