‘Bink-A-Thon’ Seeks Blanket-Making Help

Volunteers are needed for the “Bink-A-Thon,” a sewing blitz today to help make blankets for children in need.

The effort is organized by Susan Jenkins, founder of the nonprofit Binky Patrol, based in Laguna Beach. Binky Patrol has more than 30 chapters in 25 states, with more than 3,000 volunteers sewing blankets for children who are terminally or chronically ill, HIV-infected, abused or in foster care.

Volunteers are needed to sew, decorate blanket squares and pledge donations, Jenkins said. She also welcomes donations of fabric paint and crayons.

The event, which will be held at Murray Senior Center in Mission Viejo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be mirrored in Colorado, Texas, Missouri, Illinois and New York.

Locally, blankets will go to organizations including Human Options, Hannah’s Children’s Homes, Laurel House and Olive Crest.
