Banker Ties Clinton to Fund-Raising Call

A retired investment banker said in a published interview that President Clinton had telephoned him and asked for campaign funds for the Democratic Party. Newsweek magazine said Richard Jenrette’s account of the call provided the first documentary evidence the president made fund-raising phone calls from the White House. Jenrette said Clinton phoned him Oct. 18, 1994. A week after the call, Jenrette said, he wrote to Clinton telling him that he was sending checks totaling $50,000 to the Democratic National Committee.
