Trikon to Lay Off One-Fifth of Workers

Trikon Technologies Inc. said it will lay off 20% of its work force due to unexpected losses in its third quarter.

The Chatsworth-based supplier of etching and deposition equipment used in making semiconductors said it posted sales of $12.7 million and expects a loss of 70 to 75 cents per share for the quarter that ended Sept. 30.

The company will fire about 115 employees worldwide, including 23 from its Chatsworth plant, said spokesman Frederick Reynolds.
