Tune In to See How to Prepare for El Nino

Anticipating as much as 12 inches of rain and resulting floods from El Nino, the city has taken several measures in preparation for a potentially unusual winter.

The city has produced “El Nino 1997: What It Means for Cypress,” a 20-minute TV program to show residents what to expect and ways to be prepared.

It will be shown on Cypress Cable Channel 52 on Tuesday and Thursday at noon and 8 p.m., Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

From Oct. 29 to Nov. 30, the show will be broadcast Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon and 8 p.m., Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., and Sundays at 9 a.m.

In addition, the city bought 20 tons of sand. All city catch basins and storm drains were cleaned and pump stations inspected.

The city also purchased extra flares, traffic cones and first-aid supplies for the Police Department.
