Day Runner Inc.: The Irvine manufacturer of organizers and planners said net income rose 16% to $4.4 million, or 70 cents a share, for the first fiscal quarter from $3.8 million, or 57 cents a share, a year ago. Sales for the quarter ended Sept. 30 grew 14% to $38.1 million from $33.5 million.
