The body of a Long Beach man has been found in the Chino Hills after his family said he had been kidnapped and that they had paid a ransom, authorities said Tuesday.

The man has been identified as Rodolfo Avalos, 24, of Long Beach, said Long Beach police spokesman Harry Erickson. Police are awaiting results of an autopsy to learn the cause of death.

Sergio Martinez, 29, of Long Beach has been arrested on kidnapping charges and is being held pending arraignment, said Erickson.

According to relatives of Avalos, the incident began Thursday when the victim was forced at gunpoint into a vehicle in the 1000 block of Molino Avenue in Long Beach, said Erickson. The suspects contacted the victim’s family and demanded that $30,000 be dropped at a designated location in Los Angeles, he said.

On Saturday, after the man had not been returned, the family contacted police, who asked the FBI for assistance. On Sunday, the victim’s body was found in the Chino Hills by San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies, officials said.
