Plaque to Honor Late City Finance Director

A plaque in honor of the late city finance director Susan Temple will be erected at Lions Park.

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District nominated Temple for the Circle of Service Award, which is a commemoration for outstanding dedication and service.

Temple was 42 years old when she died in August of encephalitis and meningitis.

Temple, who lived in Huntington Beach, was considered hard-working and dedicated in difficult budgetary times in which a recession decreased sales tax revenue while demand for services continued to rise.

She was also given much of the credit for withdrawing most of the city’s money from the Orange County investment pool before the county’s 1994 bankruptcy filing.

The City Council agreed this week to share the cost of the plaque with the district.
