There’s No Shortage of Events on Sunday

Three races with very different objectives will be held Sunday in Orange County.

The Heart and Sole 1K, 5K and 10K in Irvine will raise money for the American Heart Assn. The San Juan Trail 50 will give long-distance runners a test through the Cleveland National Forest. And the Monster Mash Dash in Newport Beach will be a Halloween-themed 5K.

There’s no cost to run in the Heart and Sole race, which starts at 8 a.m. with the 10K. The 5K starts at 8:15 and the 1K at 9:45. Runners are encouraged to collect pledges for the Heart Assn. All races start at the Irvine Spectrum Entertainment Center. Call (714) 856-3555 for more information.

The San Juan race will start at 5:45 a.m. at Blue Jay campground, near Ortega Highway in San Juan Capistrano. Cost is $65, which includes a day pass to the Cleveland National Forest. Call (714) 367-1070 for more information.

The Halloween run starts at 9 a.m. Sunday at Newport Beach Back Bay. Cost is $20. Call (714) 661-6062 for more information.

A program that provides temporary housing for the homeless will be the beneficiary of a race Nov. 2 in Irvine.

The fifth annual Hard Rock Cafe Run for Cover will be at Fashion Island, with a 10K starting at 7:30 a.m., a 5K at 8:30 and a 1K at 9:40. Proceeds will benefit HomeAid, which has been in Orange County since 1989.

Cal State Fullerton will be the site for Salida del Sol, a 5K and 10K run Nov. 8.

The third annual race, organized by the Fullerton Sunrise Rotary Club, raises money for several local groups.

The 5K starts at 8 a.m., with the 10K beginning at 8:30. Cost is $17. For more information, call (714) 841-5417.

Tustin schools will benefit from the annual Dinosaur Dash through the city’s streets Nov. 16.

The 5K and 10K runs start at 8 a.m., with a 2K at 9:30. The races will start on El Camino Real, and finish near the Tustin Market Place shopping center.
