Irvine Cosmetic Artist Offers Tips for Over-50 Set

Share

Cosmetic artist Jan Thielbar, owner of Make-Up Creations in Irvine, suggests the following tips for making up after 50:

* Start with a non-oily moisturizer and light, water-based foundation on the face. Blot with a tissue to remove excess.

* Use a very light foundation or highlighter not only under the eyes but also wherever there are shadows, especially down the side of the nose, at the corners of the eyes and below the corners of the mouth. Too often women use a concentrated foundation that’s too heavy.

* Lightly dust the face with a fine silk powder before applying blush and eye shadow.

* Lightly pencil in under the lower lashes. Don’t connect the eyeliner lines on the upper and lower lids at the corner of the eye. Leaving it open makes the eyes look larger.

* To conceal lines at the top of the lips, apply highlighter and powder. Then, with a natural-color lip pencil, draw a line along the outer edges of the lips to make them appear larger.

* To define the chin, use a large, fan-shaped brush to apply a light brown powder underneath the chin and along the neck down to the collar.

* Avoid bright colors in areas you don’t want to highlight, such as creases around the eyes.
