Hycor Biomedical Inc.: The Irvine company reported a third-quarter net loss of $3.6 million, or 50 cents a share, which included a write-off of $3.3 million for research and development costs associated with the acquisition of Cogent Diagnostics Ltd. in July. A year ago, the company lost $131,000, or 2 cents a share. Sales were flat at $4.7 million. The net loss for the first three quarters of 1997 totaled $3.8 million, or 53 cents a share, contrasted with net income of $15,000 for the comparable period of 1996. Revenue declined 7% to $14.1 million from $15.2 million.
