District Urged to Let School Keep Lease

Share

More than 100 parents from Waldorf School urged Newport-Mesa Unified School District board members this week to let the private campus keep its lease at Eastbluff School past next June.

The school district is considering reopening Eastbluff School to accommodate new students from Bonita Village, an area being developed off nearby MacArthur Boulevard.

Waldorf, a private elementary school with 204 students, subleases the Newport-Mesa school site from Coastline College.

Its lease on the building expires June 1999, but Newport-Mesa officials have said they may need to turn the school out next year.

Some Waldorf parents threatened legal action against the district if the board decides to cut the lease short.

Others said they would fight to keep Waldorf at Eastbluff indefinitely.

The board may make a decision about the Eastbluff lease at its Tuesday meeting.
