State Funds to Be Used to Hire Extra Officer
State police grant funds will be used to hire another motorcycle officer under a proposal approved unanimously this week by the City Council.
The city will receive $129,000 this year from the Citizens Option for Public Safety program, which goes to police agencies across California.
Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Davis, who is in charge of Laguna Niguel police services, recommended the city add a motorcycle officer at a cost of $113,000 to enhance traffic enforcement.
The council agreed to spend the remaining $16,000 on new mobile data computers, which provide deputies on the beat quicker access to law enforcement information.
